The Cuyahoga County Early Childhood Wellness Plan was announced on July 9, 2015.
Created by a community-wide task force, the plan includes the following goals:
Child care centers, community and social service agencies serving children ages 0-5 will:
- Increase availability of healthy foods and beveraged, and reduce availability of non-healthy foods and sugar sweetened beverages during meals and snacks;
- Increase daily physical activity and reduce screen time; and
- Increase engagement with families around healthy eating and physical activity.
In addition, the Task Force will promote and support exclusive breastfeeding for the first six months of life, and continuing breastfeeding plus introduction of age-appropriate foods through the first year of life.
